Message from the Chairman
of the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong
Welcome to the homepage of the Veterinary
Surgeons Board of Hong Kong.
With a growing awareness of animal
welfare in the community in recent years, the demand for quality
veterinary services and the public expectations for the veterinary
profession have risen. Enacted in 1997, the Veterinary Surgeons
Registration Ordinance, Cap. 529, provides for the establishment
of the Veterinary Surgeons Board, which is responsible for the regulation,
registration and discipline of veterinary surgeons.
This statutory body, therefore,
has been set up to ensure the standards of the veterinary profession.
With the assistance of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation
Department, the founding Chairman, Professor Edward K. Y. CHEN,
started the Board by putting in place the necessary rules and procedures
for its effective operation. Under the able leadership of Prof.
CHEN and his successor, Professor POON Chung-kwong, together with
the unfailing support of all its members, the Board has come a long
way from its early days. It now maintains a register of about 350
veterinary surgeons. As the regulatory and disciplinary authority,
it has issued a Code of Practice for the Guidance of Registered
Veterinary Surgeons for the compliance of all members of the profession.
We have prepared this homepage
to outline the work and the development of the Board. I hope that
you will find the information here useful. Happy surfing!
Professor LEE Chack-fan, SBS, JP
Chairman of Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong
